Class 1A Feature Athlete (Sept. 20)

Name: Abby Cooper
High School: Fort Cherry
Grade: 11
Position: Outside hitter/defensive specialist

Background Info: Cooper first and foremost is a Lady Ranger student-athlete on the volleyball and basketball team at Fort Cherry. She was a freshman co-captain on the JV team and earned the Players Award and Coachs Award at the end of the season. As a freshman, she was quoted by her teammates as being, "A leader on the court, hard worker, well-rounded player, mentally tough, doesn't take offense to constructive criticism and never complains". Her sophomore year, she earned 2nd team All-Sections and she made varsity and earned the Lady Ranger Award for her excellent play and leadership abilities. She has playoff experience with WPIALS and states. This year, as a junior she was named co-captain. Her teammates admire her as a player, and witness the 110% that she gives at each practice and game.

Quotes from Fort Cherry coach Kelly Lacek: "I never doubt Abby's attitude, leadership on the court and commitment to volleyball. She is a consistent, reliable and hard-working athlete. I never have to doubt when a volleyball comes her way that she won't hit the floor for her teammates and coaches. She has worked hard since her freshman year to get to where she is now. She has playoff experience and is a very smart attacker and server. Volleyball is a great game for Abby's skills to shine, but she knows I care more about her as a person and that she will apply what she has learned with discipline, hard-work and respect for others through her life. Her awards that she has received, don't define her, they show her character and integrity. Her leadership that she shows on and off the court was part of our success last season and will be true for this season."
