Report submitted by assistant coach Peter Barakat:
The Bishop Canevin Crusaders girls volleyball team won all three matches on Saturday to win the Silver Bracket at the Virginia Volleyball Showcase in Richmond, VA. BC won 4 of 5 matches and 10 of 14 games throughout the two day tournament.

Day Two began with 2nd Round Pool Play. Canevin won the first match of the morning against the Cosby Titans (25-20, 25-17, 18-25).

During this match, Senior Setter Maddie Maziarz became the second Crusader to reach 2,000 assists in her high school career. She is on pace to become the school’s all time leader in assists. She is also only 11 service aces away from the school’s record in that category, after recording 20 this weekend.

She had 6 of those aces in the next match, a win over the James River Rapids (25-11, 23-25, 25-16). This win pushed BC into the Silver Bracket Final.

That match was against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. The Crusaders took charge from the beginning. They won game one 25-14, and finished sweep as all 13 girls played in the 25-19 win in game two. Senior Alexa Malloy had 12 kills in the match. Junior Izzy Beichner added 3 aces.

Malloy tallied 73 kills in the tournament. Maddie Maziarz set up 123 assists this weekend. Hanna DeLisio recorded 59 digs to pass 700 in her career. And Sophomore Abbie Maziarz had 10 blocks.
