Name: Chris Lewis High School: Gateway Grade: 11 Position: Outside Hitter Background Info: This season is Chris' first official season as a full-time starter for the Gators' boys volleyball team. Prior to the pandemic, Chris was slated to become a full-time starter during his sophomore year. In addition to playing a critical role on the boys team here at Gateway, Chris also actively stays involved on the club scene as a current member of the Exile Volleyball Club Team; he also previously spent time with the A-10 Volleyball Club Team prior to joining Exile. As a student, Chris is a regular fixture on the High Honor Roll at Gateway High School and has earned a very respectable 3.7 GPA with all college-prep or honors courses. Chris organically loves the sport of volleyball, and as a testament to his constant hunger for the game, he independently does his homework on other teams in the WPIAL by constantly devouring tape and stats. While still finding success in other avenues of life, Chris has made volleyball his entire world, and he is meticulous in the manner in which he seeks to demonstrate constant growth in this domain. As one of the most powerful, consistent, and versatile hitters in the WPIAL, Chris is a true "plug and play" type of player, and his selflessness as a player allows us to use him where we need him, when we need him. Chris is inheriting a team where six of the eight current starters are first-year players, yet his emerging voice is helping to lead us to make some noise in AA this year. Due to his precocious skill set in so many avenues of the game, Chris is a six-spot player for us at Gateway, and this type of role is certainly one that Chris has the potential to fill in a major program at the post-secondary level, as well. Chris' short and long-term demands for growth and intensity have tremendously benefited our program at GHS, and before too long, I am quite confident that a collegiate coach will echo very similar sentiments, for Chris is a gamechanger and is absolutely someone to keep a close eye on." |
