Name: Colin Wiegand High School: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Grade: 12 Position: Outside Hitter Background Info: Wiegand started his OLSH career as a freshman middle hitter and got playing time on the varsity in 2019. He was one of two freshmen to get varsity time as the Chargers tied Ambridge for the section title and lost in the semifinals in 5 sets. Last year he likely would have played middle again if the season had not been cancelled due to Covid. This year, Wiegand has been moved outside and given a lot more responsibility as he works to become more consistent at his serve receive skills, his outside attacking, and his defensive back row play. All of these things were foreign to him until this season, so it's like he has started over but he is gaining confidence as he grows into this position and all the things that go with it. Quotes from OLSH coach Mike McDonald: "Colin will continue to grow in the new position and as an all around player as we go through the remainder of the season. With continued work, focus, and effort, Colin will be a very accomplished player by next season. Currently, his production is still a main reason that OLSH is in matches with other teams, and currently still in the playoff hunt. I see continued success for Colin as the season begins to wind down and approach the possibility of a playoff spot." |
