Class 3A Feature Athlete (May 11)

Name: Cole Dorn
High School: North Allegheny
Grade: 12
Position: Outside Hitter

Background Info: Dorn has played volleyball for North Allegheny and Pittsburgh Volleyball Club: Sandlot since 7th grade. He was a member of the WPIAL and PIAA champion teams in 2019 and 2021, the latter in which he earned All-State and 2nd team All-WPIAL recognition. His 2022 season began at a dominant level; having played in one tournament and two matches, leading North Allegheny with 61 kills on a .596 hitting percentage to go with 13 aces. With three points left in the Shaler match, Dorn sprained his ankle, an injury that has sidelined him ever since. His rehabilitation has been methodical and steady, and he hopes to join his teammates on the court once again this season. An honor student with a 4.4 grade point average, Dorn was also a wide receiver on the North Allegheny football team. He plans to study physical therapy and play volleyball at St. Francis University.

Quotes from North Allegheny coach Dan Schall: "Cole is one of the finest players to have ever played at North Allegheny. He's an all-around talent on the court with a wide range of skill and versatility. He combines that with selflessness and leadership that brings out the best in his teammates. His injury this season has been one of the most unfortunate and undeserved setbacks that I have seen in coaching, but his work ethic and commitment have even shown through in the rehabilitation process. Cole still has pages left to write in his book, and it is our collective hope that he is able to play again this season."
