Class 2A Feature Athlete (Oct. 13)

Name: Avery Bain
High School: Burrell
Grade: 12
Position: Outside Hitter

Background Info: Bain began playing volleyball at the age of eight in the third grade. She attended Mary Queen of Apostles School for grade school, and Catholic schools field teams starting in the fourth grade. Because they didn’t have enough fourth graders to field a team, she was allowed to play up starting in third grade. She followed her older sister Caroline in to the sport, so she has been around the sport of volleyball as long as she can remember. This is her tenth season of school volleyball. She is a four-year varsity starter and a three-year captain for Burrell. In addition to school volleyball, this fall will mark her eighth season of club volleyball. She plays for Revolution Volleyball Club in Pittsburgh. Last year, her club team finished fifth in their division at the USAV National tournament in Indianapolis. She is currently being recruited to play volleyball at the college level and has offers from a number of Division I schools as well as Division II. She hopes to make her decision about where she will play by the end of the year.

Quotes from Burrell coach Alyson Shirey: "Avery is a leader on and off the court and a true gem! She is a fantastic role model to her peers and younger athletes. She is athletically and academically sound. Congratulations Avery!"
